Therapeutic Modalities

Chiropractic Manipulative Therapy

Involves the use of joint manipulations, manual or assisted, with the purpose of restoring normal biomechanics of a given joint and improving the mind body connection, allowing for proper function and wellbeing.

Cupping

Involves the use of suction cups for the purpose of creating a space between layers of tissue, allowing them to glide properly against each other, provide a novel influx of blood perfusion to tissues providing vital nutrients and extra oxygen required for healing, and reduce stiffness and tightness sensation.
Cupping is a form of alternative medicine in which a local suction is created on the skin with the application of suctioned cups.
Purpose – Cupping works as a reverse massage and separates the connective tissue and muscle underneath the skin from each other in order to promote healing in the area by increasing blood flow and breaking up adhesions.

Kinesiotaping and Dynamic Tape

Using specialized tape in order to provide neurological feedback improving the body mind connection, provide pain relief, decrease swelling, and improve overall tissue function

Electrical Stimulation

Electrical Stimulation is the elicitation of muscle contraction using electric impulses.

Purpose – Electrical Stimulation works by increasing stimulation to the beta fibers which in turn block your pain fibers to aid in decreasing pain. It can also be used to relax muscle spasms and decrease muscle atrophy often seen after surgery.

Flexion Distraction

Flexion Distraction is a type of chiropractic manipulation using a table that allows flexion of the lower extremities and pelvis in relation to the spine.

Purpose – Flexion Distraction allows for increased mobilization of the joints of patients that are unable to withstand a chiropractic adjustment due to pain tolerance and may potentially delay or eliminate the need for surgery. This treatment option is great for disc conditions, sprain/strains, as well as canal stenosis.

Hydromassage Therapic

Benefits of Hydromassage Therapy are:

Relaxes Muscles, decreasing stiffness & improving flexibility

Reduces pain, making movement easier

Reduces stress and fatigue, resulting in a clearer mind

Increases blood circulation to help the body function better

Provides muscle relaxation & improved range of motion

Combines the therapeutic benefits of pressurized water, heat, and flotation therapy

Treats soft tissue injuries and other conditions such as orthopedic, rheumatic, and neurological disorders

Increases endorphin levels

Therapeutic Ultrasound

The term “ultrasound” refers to sound waves generated in a frequency range far above that of human hearing. While you may have heard of it in the context of diagnostic imaging, therapeutic ultrasound operates at different frequencies than diagnostic ultrasound. The therapeutic instruments usually generate frequencies of 1MHz or 3MHz.

When ultrasonic energy comes into contact with injured or ailing human tissues, some remarkable changes can occur. The waves increase blood flow to the treatment site, warming, and relaxing the tissues while also accelerating the healing process.

Ultrasound also causes fluids to move through and among cells more easily, a phenomenon known as streaming. Meanwhile, ultrasonic vibration appears to increase the flexibility of collagen, a component of scar tissue and other structures, so that tissues can operate more comfortably and freely.

Conditions Treated by Therapeutic Ultrasound

Therapeutic ultrasound can play an important role in both acute injury treatment and chronic pain management. Chiropractors, physical therapists, and other practitioners use to treat conditions such as:

Osteoarthritis

Bursitis

Tendinitis

Plantar fasciitis

Strained muscles

Sprained ligaments

Wrist pain

Running injuries

Adhesions (lumps of scar tissue that limit musculoskeletal motion)

Therapeutic Ultrasound as Part of Your Chiropractic Treatment Plan

Grand Oak Chiropractic reports that ultrasound also works well alongside manual therapy, corrective exercises, and other treatment techniques to help you manage pain or get over a nagging injury. Therapeutic ultrasound may even increase your pain threshold and help your nerves conduct signals more effectively.
